Freelander 2 Rear Light issues

Hey, can anyone please help?
Noticed my rear passenger light was out this morning. Went to change the bulb, not usually an issue. First problem was that I noticed it was absolutely welded in.. managed to get it out with pliers. Replaced with new bulb.. (double filament) but, the brake works, and the rear light still doesn’t. I checked the power and the weird thing is that power was there? My hunch is that it’s an earth issue, obviously I can’t get hold of an auto electrician being the weekend. I can use my fog lights until it’s fixed.
Has anyone experienced this? I guess it’s the holder that’s the problem. If anyone can shed any light and how much I’ll be expecting to pay that would be much appreciated!

I'd try another bulb first.
If the brake light is working, then the earth is fine, as the brake light filament is using it.

Hey! Thanks for the reply. I tried 3 bulbs, the spare I had, then a brand new pack.. still the same issue with all 3. Any more tips??

There's definitely power at the bulb connector?

Definitely. There is power going through both pins at the bottom of the connector. It’s really odd. Never had this with any of my cars and been driving for 20+ years!? It was odd that the old bulb was pretty much welded in.. I don’t know if that’s causing a problem. Just so strange that the brake light now works just not the rear light.

Is connector in the bottom of the bulb holder actually touching the bulb contact?

I didn’t think it was at first, so I carefully lifted it a tiny bit, still nothing. I tried replicating the holder, with 2 wires, coming out the holder, and touching the base of the bulb- and even then, the rear light filament wasn't lighting up.

were you earthing bulb whilst trying this ?

Just explain to me what you mean, as I’m not a professional with stuff like this, just basic knowledge, thank you

The metal body (bayonet) of the bulb needed to be in contact with metal bulb holder, whilst you were juggling wire from light unit contact to bulb contact, nothing would work if you were connecting two wires to the two contacts on bulb only

The only way I can explain it, is I had the wires going from the metal holder, to the bulb bayonet, and one filament in the bulb was lighting up- the brake. I couldn’t get the rear light to work at all

That suggest there's no power to the tail light circuit. So it's either a fuse, or an output FET in the CJB (body control module).

Thank you! I’ll need to wait until next week to source a good auto electrician I guess
