Last morning with a light frost on the journey to work the Disco started to slide on a bend! Took me quite by suprise but managed to get it back without too much hassle - considered it to be a one off!

On the drive to work today...similar conditions, much more cautious...no problems at the bend, but 100m on is a STOP sign...looked a bit shiny so again caution...was driving extreme slow, compared to other traffic, maybe 15mph...approached braking steadily, and as we pulled up - ABS working like crazy...

Went to pull away, and no traction, what so ever...struggled to get away...

I clearly have a problem with these tyres on the Street! Michelin 4x4 Syncrone 255/65/R16 - so what are my options... Mainly the car is used on the street, but obviously want to take it across some fields from time to time. I am happy to consider 2 sets in the future, or choose a good all round tyre - if anything exists - i feel it will always be a compromise...

Looking at previous posts BFG AT2s and Michelin LTX A2 are recommended...are they both Winter Style Tyres or just 4x4 Tyre.

Hope people can help.

I have a set of the Michelin 4x4 Syncrone on the L200 at work there ok on snow and mud but like you say can be a bit slippy on wet/icy roads.

Got a set of General Garbber AT on the disco and had them on since we bought it over 18 months ago and done over 24000 miles and they don't even look worn. Don't know about the BFG's but hope this helps

BFG AT's are simply excellent! I have done 75000 miles on mine, and they're still going strong. Good grip in most conditions/ Best £100/corner I've spent!

BFG AT;s ... third set. Only changed the last set after 25000 miles 'cos the edges were rounding a bit and not gripping quite as much offroad, but sold them on ebay for £250 ish with about 6 - 8mm tread depth left. ... ;)
