Hi,

I have a 1997 D1 and I'm looking at the following kit for a 2" lift.

https://terrafirma4x4.com/all_terrain_shock_spring_kit_medium_load_90_97_d1_r1_tf202.html

Is there anything that else that I would need to do other than replace these components (e.g. extending brake pipes etc.)? Would any other similarly priced kit be better? I am not looking to carry large loads etc. and just want more ground clearance.

My next question is in relation to wheels and tyres:

I currently have the standard 16" wheels, and would like to put a good set of mud tyres onto the car. What size could I go up to with the 2" lift (without body modifications) and what tyre do people recommend?

I got the car for off-road use, so not really too bothered about how it will be on the road.

Any other useful advice around these issues would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I accidentally got a 2" lift on my 98 D1 simply by fitting HD springs to the rear and putting the existing rears on the front!
Did this purely cos I was going to be doing some heavy duty, long distance, high speed towing.
I already had decent GAZ shockers on to help with roll, which they did.
But Gaz ain't so good nowadays, so I hear.
Make of this what you will.:):):)

Been doing a bit more reading and the following thread has dissuaded me from lifting the suspension:

Lifting a D2 'properly' | LandyZone - Land Rover Forum

I am now leaning towards either cutting the arches (which I initially wanted to avoid) or doing a body lift.

So a few more questions:

1. Would the 2" body lift require any other work besides installing the spacers?

2. What size tyres could I get away with if I do a 2" body lift, assuming I leave the arches alone?

3. What size tyres could I get away with if I use the Raptor arch extension kit, and leave the suspension standard? Raptor 4x4 Wheel Arch Kit +5cm Land Rover Discovery 1 3 Door External Body | eBay

Whatever tyres are suggested, I would not want to go so big that I need to look at changing gear ratios etc.

When I changed my springs and acquired the unexpected 2" lift, I did nothing further. I kept the original tyre size etc.
It may look a little odd, but not so you'd really notice.
But if you have a special reason for the 2" lift then you may need to a little bit of other stuff.
