Well folks thank you all once again for all your help and advise with my car
well the news is good i have got my car back off land rover today and i was really pleased to find out that it was just that it had to be re calibrated again and they have done a full health check on it and all went well
Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeee i am back on the road

Hi Guy's.

New member "Today" hope you can help.
I also have a td5 ,year 2004 with the same problem suspension going down occasionally started about 3 weeks ago
It will stop up for a few days and another time it will go down in a few hours, but always raises "at the moment" . Do i just need new air bags. as I dont want to burn the pump out

Hi Keith and welcome. Yes a new pair of airbags will do your car the world of good. Some owner even report a better quality ride afterwards.

Assuming it solves the current problem, can I suggest a bit of preventative maintenance and replace both ride height sensors as well.

That way the sls system is most likely to work as designed and therefore put the least strain possible on the compressor.

Cheers
Dave

Hi, i have purchased an accident damaged 2002 discovery td5, the damage is light and to the nsf corner, it will require a light, indicator, bumper, wing and a bonnet repair. my issue is whilst playing i pressed the suspension ride hight button and the rear of the car lowered and now will not raise. i understand that all the doors need to be closed, does this also include the bonnet as that switch also needs replacing. if not what other items do i need to check out?

cheers
Dave

Fusible link FL9(30A), fuse F11(30A), relay R5 in the engine bay fusebox.......though the bags might have been manually inflated before by the seller and the compressor is f***ed. Do all the warning lights work on self check?

hi, ive just done the drivers side on mine, i done the other side 18 months ago, its a 20 minute job, dont even need to remove the wheel. peice of cake once you get ur head around it mate. if ur looking for the leaky one just pump it up on idle when pore water over it and listen for the leaks....

Just hit this thread and for what it is worth, here's my experience.

Air suspension does give a very good ride compared to springs and air suspension has the added advantage of providing extra clearance by rising up.

The air bags can leak at the top so when under normal running conditions they are fine but over night they leak and sag. Sometimes the bags leak to only when the height is at it's upper most setting as it is here that the split is most exposed.

Replacement bags are cheap enough and can be easily found on ebay although IMO it is easiest to go to a local landy specialist or visiting their sites.

Spring replacements are much less hassle and are a perminent repair and can be cheap at around £70.

Either way its all about personal preferance but be sure to consult said bastards - the insurance company - as they can get pickky with this mod.

good luck

Hi all, I've just replaced the air bags on mine, got them from Paddocks, they have a special offer on at £63.80 each, delivered to my door inc tax and delivery £153. :)

One other point that might be worth concidering, I have AA cover which includes "Brakedown repair cost" this costs an additional fee of £69 per year and covers the cost of any breakdown that cant be fixed at the roadside upto £500. and you can claim upto 5 times a year! So if for example your compressor does fail, the the AA will fit a new one for you! :D :nospamhere:

There doesn't seem to be any solid conclusions here - but if I can throw in my contribution (aka plea for help)...
During cold spells in the last few months my SRS warning light started illuminating now the weather is warmer it seems ok (except for one occasion) are Landrovers susceptible to cold weather??
But to get to the point ... during these cold spells my Air Suspension would go down overnight (would inflate with engine on idle).
As the weather warmed the suspension was OK ... until a month or so ago ... when the air suspension would randomly/occasionally go down irrespective of the weather conditions.
Now to make matters worse it is going down more and more often even on several occasions, when I am driving!!!
It will (usually) now only inflate either by stopping and turning ignition off/on or by using the button on the dash' I did think at one point that opening and closing the driver's door seemed to help(?) and ...
I hit (with a bang :) a rather unlevel level crossing the other day and I hadn't noticed the suspension had gone down ... I suspect that this may have damaged the ACE as a few days later yellow light and hydraulic fluid p'ing out ...
ps. it goes down on both sides but the other day I caught it before it was comletely down and it was lower on the driver's side or this could have been because it was on a silght slope (ie leaning to the ds anyway)

pps. both airbags replaced 2 years back

ppps I also have a leaky sun roof - or rain roof as I prefer to call it ...

Hi.
First check the load sensor arms haven't become detatched from the chassis as they can split at the top and fall off then the disco doesn't know what pressure to send to the back air bags.
I replaced my back bags with new from paddock for £60 a side and only noticed the sensor arms were dangling off after I'd done it so I probably wasted £120 when all it could maybe have taken was a couple of cable ties to hold the arm onto the peg on the chassis.
If it is the compressor (unlikely on a 52 plate)you can buy refurb kits with a new liner and piston rings for it.
Check the wee arms first.

Hi There Guys....My story begins.

I have had my 2000 Disco 2 V8 for about 2 years and have had relitivelly few problems other than water leaks and the 3 Amigos untill about 3 weeks ago.I towed a small trailler and the following day noticed that the rear had dipped a bit.I attempted raising with the dash button but no luck!So my project started...I removed the Pump and discovered that the one spring on the brushes had rusted and broken...I replaced both springs and cleaned up the rusty bits.Bench tested and the Pump worked great.I replaced the Pump plugged everything back together and connected the battery.Turned on the ignition and the rear dropped all the way....tow bar on the ground!!!!!Then tested opening valves...all okey!I then connected power directly to valves and pump and inflated each side individually...that was fun running around with a tape measure to each wheel Arch. The minute I re-connected the valves the suspension dropped again....even after a short drive hopeing it would inflate....started process over again and manually inflated bags...left the opening valve plug wires off and travelled up to the auto-electrition(Had to deal with the nasty beeping though)Reset 21 faults but no luck with Pump coming on automatically.Reset air in bags manually again...and left valve plug wires off.I dont suspect bad Airbags as the stay up and only go down if I plug in the opening Valve wires.....Why is the signal not getting to the Pump to re-inflate....checked all necessary fuses and re-lays.....please help...considering coils or a 4x4 change!

1. What faults did u cleare ? .... they must have had a description.
2. Did u check the SLS relay ?...cos this one is feeding the compressor...the valves are controlled directly by the ECU.
3. Did u try to push ORM switch?
4. Unplug the exhaust valve, not the air supply valves...see what happens
5. Check the connectors on the height sensors.

I hope u disconnected the battery before u replaced the air bags....anyway, unplug the battery, swap the height sensors, jack up the back to about 2/3 of the normal height, reconnect battery and try then.

Have you checked the sls fuseable link in the engine bay fusebox?

YIPPY,JA,JA.....I have my Landy back to normal!!!!!Thank you to all that helped...not sure what part advice worked but all is back to speck.......amongst other fault tracing I removed the height sensors sprayed contact cleaner in the plug points and on shaft and spun them around a few hundred times...swopped them left, right and connected it all up.Reconnected battery Switched on ignition(Doors closed obviously) She lowered to correct ride height and stayed there.Opened door and she went slighty lower and raised again on start up.(The hissing and farting has returned!!!The sweetest sound........Thanks again guys!!:)
