Hi All,

So just purchased my first discovery project, 300tdi. Previous owner said the central locking works but battery has gone, so changed the battery within the ten seconds etc but still not working. I have a two button fob doesn't have an Led light. Anyone got any ideas and if not where do I buy a new one?

Thanks.

Do the switches click in nicely?

If they do try a resync, there are guides on the internet, found one on another forum search on resync keyfob discovery 1 and look at the forum results.

If the switches are yuk they can be replaced if you are competent with a soldering iron, or use a repair person search for martin keyfob repair for an example of someone who does it cheaply and with good feedback.

It could also be a broken battery terminal, again this is repairable.

Thank you! I will go and introduce myself now.

Switches click in good, I have two fobs one looks old and battered but the other looks pretty new considering the age of the car. The soldering looks ok as I had a nosey at it when I changed the battery. I will have a look at the resync.

Thanks.

When I got my discovery both the key fobs weren't working, new battery checked all connections inside and resoldered a dodgy bit in one fob and it worked :)

Same on the other still won't work :(

I have tried the press the button four times trick but it didnt work. I think it may be a new purchase altogether. Just unsure whether the central locking does work and whether to waste the money of new fobs? Is there a way of checking this first?

Borrow a scanner and listen in on 433920 MHz, if it squeaks, it is broadcasting, if not, look for circuit breaks, check the swiches are working, the battery terminals, loose chips (they can have dry joints).

I would guess that 90% of faulty fobs can be repaired, some are unreliable (Vx Astra are terrible), some are pretty good (Jaguar, other Vx), some are average, (Citron)

Has your immobiliser need bypassed as u need a functioning fob if not, easy to know if the central locking is working is just with turning the key in the drivers door lock, then all u have to do is find out why the remote function doesn't .

Check out Remotekey as they do a refurb service on fobs.

Well this was my initial thought as when opening the drivers door the other doors dont open with it therefore I thought the central locking was completely gone. Am I right in thinking this?

Excellent I will check that ASAP because no my alarm doesn't work either. I knew something wasn't right.

Fuses look in tact frustratingly. Swapped the central locking one with the spare just in case and no luck. Arghh

Yes wondering this myself. The guy we bought it off was an old man who just used it to get around, I can't see him lying that the locking worked which made me thunk originally it was just a dead fob battery. Now I need to work out how to dig deeper into the problem.

i have the same problem as you only my central locking does work from the drivers door lock using the key,
just checked fuses and they are ok,
could this be because it's a jap import?
is yours an import???
