Evenin' all.
I'm in the middle of fitting a T-Max twin battery controller setup, and I've modified a really old and solid mobile phone holder to suit the display unit. The holder has a flat, circular base with 4 countersunk screw holes. I intend to put this on the top of the dash on the flat bit just above the left hand vent outlet (RH drive vehicle). I'm guessing that there is a metal dashboard somewhere under the soft foam padding, but for reasons not unconnected with drilling holes in the wrong place I'd like to just 'nip' the self-tappers into the metal. Does anyone know how deep that padding is please? I really, REALLY don't want to get this wrong.
