Discovery 1 abs nightmare

Evening all, got a 96 discovery 1 with abs fault keep getting a 2-12 code for front right sensor air gap, no play in the wheel bearings swive hub is tight new sensor, wiring is good, can clear the code and get half a mile before the fault is back anyone had this it’s driving me mad!

That doent mean it can't be play in the reluctor ring so better work on that hub, i'm not sure how the D1's hub setup is there but if the sensor and wiring are ruled out the problem can be only in the hub or eventually the ECU

I’ve already changed the ecu, stripped the hub can’t see anything wrong with the ring no cracks or teeth missing, unless it’s out of shape I’ll have to strip it again and re asses must have missed something

In reality that’s all u can do, the wheel sensor system isn’t that complicated so if you have replaced or reassembled as instructed in LRs workshop manual u shouldn’t have an issue.

I dont know haw hard of a job it is but for a better conclusion you should swap hubs between sides to make sure it's not some intermittent wiring issue

I’ll have to root the workshop manual out and check everything, it’s the most simple abs system I’ve had to play with and the only one I’ve struggled with to this degree.
The cv must be moving somehow causing the air gap to vary, just can’t see how and don’t want to blow the parts cannon at it

I swapped sensors about and at first the fault moved with the sensor so fitted all new sensors now I’m just left with the fault on that hub

Inside the stub axle there's a needle roller bearing if they are worn or missing will allow the CV to move slightly causing an air gap.

Yeah I’ve had it stripped I thought that might be the issue but looks pretty good and when the driveshaft is day in it feels nice and tight might be worth chucking a new one in see if that helps

Iirc max air gap is 0.50MM
