Dear All,

my auto V8 Disco I is not going to be driven for about three weeks so I was planning to disconnect the battery. (The heat in Malaysia is notorious for shortening battery life.)

Does anyone know if this is going to cause problems? e.g. ECU etc. that needs a constant power supply.

Many thanks,

Andy

Shouldn't be a problem - I would make sure you have your radio security code if applicable before doing it - it may well ask you for it once you reconnect battery.
Does yours have an alarm? If it does and has a battery backup for it (I know some do) you may find it kills the backup battery.

Hi Andy, if it was me, for only three weeks I would leave it connected.

Depending on what model year your vehicle is, the more electronic they are, the more they don't like interrupted power supplies.

Cheers & good luck, Merry Christmas

Dave

if you have the alarm imob you will need to reprogramme your keys and so on I think... you also wont have an alarm for the time the battery is out which may or may not bother you.. you will also need to reprogram your radio code... sounds like too much hassle for three weeks to me...

Thanks for the info guys, very helpful. I just want to avoid the situation of a couple of Christmases ago when I (and a couple of mates of mine) all came back to find flat batteries after our trips back home!

Cheers and Happy Christmas

If it's sunny there (if???!) you could get one of these solar-powered trickle chargers. They don't do much but it could keep your battery alive.

Why not get an engine starter! I bought one to start my Disco and she fired up straight away. The one I have also has a tyre compressor, work light and 12V auxillary socket.Exellent and only cost £20.00 from B and M store.
