well lad's and lasses iv done alot of off roading in the disco but have felt limited by my standard setup. im going for a 2" lift with extended brakes lines,235/85R16 mud/all terain tyres. diff guards, steerings guards(have HD steering arm's) rock slider sills and a light bar,i will be using this as my every day vehicle so im not going for a limmo diff(actually what are Detroit diffs like??) i am thinking of fitting a bumper and winch and maybe a HD rear bumper

all help /comments apreciated

What type of help and comments would you like? Most of what you posted was a statement and not a question.

What sort of offroading are you doing? Is it commercial or for fun? What will you be using the winch for? What sort of terrain are you thinking of driving?

just looking to see if people think i need anything els,i would be driving mostly rock terrain and wheel high water, havnt done much mud due to lack of decent tyres. it will be just for recreation purpose's but i want a good setup as where i go is far from civilisation

straight away it means that you going to have to either waterproof your winch OR go hydraulic/shaft driven.

The set-up really does depend on what you wish to achieve. Just remember that the bits you can't see are generally the bits you actually need. If you are rock crawling I would say HD drivetrain components and lower gearing would be the type of thing you need.

thanks very much apreciated :D

was thinking of fitting the lower geared defender box but the standard is good untill i start getting more into the slow rock climbing

both the defender and disco transfer boxes use the same lower range gearing. It's only the high range gearing that changes. If you are offroading on rock you'd be in low anyway so it'd be a pointless mod.;)

bit like you then :D:D:D

Just get the off road tyres and see how it goes before you spend all the extra money on the other stuff.

I'd also suggest breather extensions and a snorkel .. if the water's wheel-high, you've only got a few inches before the air inlet, and mud tyres 'pull' a lot of water over the tyres .. ;)

Certainly better than the light bar, and I'd choose snorkel over HD rear bumper any day .. which probably depends on the budget though .. :)

Most of the stuff people fit is just fashion accesories. Start with some decent tyres in either 235/85 or 265/75 in conjunstion with a bit of body trimming and removal of all the plastic crap from around your bumpers. This is the only thing that will improve ground clearance lifted suspension will not lift the axles any higher off the floor. Snorkel and good axle/gearbox breathers might help if you're going in deep water. Pretty much everything else is shiny chaff designed to extract your cash.

My method is to use the car, and buy parts as i need them!

However, six months of pay and play days down the line, it turns out you "need" quite a lot!! :D

if rock craling then the under body armour will see some use.How about recovery points?Do you struggle with ya current set up?Id mod it by seing wot ya need, for example id only lift it if the body is snagging.Bigger wheels and a lift will lift the diffs=more clearance
