Disco TD5

Had a strange problem yesterday morning. Unlocked the Disco with alarm button, got in and turned key and alarm went off, not good at 4.30am. So I pressed button again to silence it, put car into drive but the dash lights "m" and "s" were flashing along with the auto lever lights. Manual says I should manually shift gears and seek assisstance urgently. Any Ideas if probs are linked, or another TD5 glitch to get used too

Electrical fault with the transmission - not really a DIY fix

There is a switch thingy on the side of the box close to the exhaust. Not cheap, about 100 quid over here in SA. But first check the colour of your ATF. If it is black the box has been overheated and will need to be reconned.

Last week we changed a switch to fix the M + S lights, which it did, but the very next day the box would not drive and lots of black oil came out. Towing horse boxes is not a good idea with a TD5 auto.

thanks for that info, pretty worrying about transmission problems. It has'nt reoccurred as of yet.

I had the same 'M' and 'S' gearbox lights illuminate too once after filling up with fuel, when put in drive it felt like a manual when the clutch is slipping, ie revs but very very slow to move off etc...limped it home and took it to an independent whi when they came round to it that afternoon, it was fine, plugged in the computer and nothing was wrong...been fine ever since....mad

Check the earth points around the battery and fuse box area under the bonnet.Because that is the most common cause for the auto box faults comming on .

Have same probs quite often when i try to start disco in D or R (forgot to select Park ) Switch off , lock car using keyfob ,5 secs, reopen & disarm make sure in "D" ,try again , Has been working for me so far.
