Try locking with the key in the drivers door lock and see what happens, this will isolate the interior ultrasonic movement detector, which are known to go over sensitive so faulty.
As for alarm sounding without being set then the is a fault, so diagnostics are required,

Something thats just come to mind re the alarm sounding with the doors unlocked… is it an genuine alarm condition or as the sounder had a battery backup there could be an intermittent loss of the 12v ‘hold off’ supply therefore the sounder would sound, normally the battery would have failed years ago if its the factory fitted sounder, if so its back to square one on this one.:(

If it is any consolation, I have had a similar issue on my TD5, so now I unlock it with the fob but have to lock it with the key. cos if I lock it with the fob, the alarm goes off a few seconds later.
I have been doing this for about a year now.

He was hoping to have a look at it today but it has been working ok today, seems to think it was a guy at the local hand car wash place ( he didn't tell me about ) jet washed the gap between both o/s doors that caused it to cause the problem
