Disco T box in defender question

I am planning on putting a disco T box in my 200tdi defender and was wondering what kind of top speed could i expect from this set-up? and can i just put any box in e.g. disco 200tdi, 300tdi or td5 and the T box lever will be in the same place and it can be fitted fairly trouble free? I know there can be problems with handbrakes.

you cant use td5 as it has speedo hole missing and often no difflock mechanism ,this can be changed using parts from yours and knowledge but not worth the effort , a 200 or preferably 300 ,if yours is pre 300 tdi without direct hand brake cable you either need to mod mount for linkage or drill tap 2 x 8mm holes in speedo housing ,fitting is the same exactly take care with olts 2 x shortest go in from front to back ,next shortest from rear to front lowest ,speed depends on wheel/tyre size as well

It's a good conversion for better/quiter motorway cruising. Mine was a bit sluggish on hills fully loaded due to the higher gearing but a few tweaks to the turbo & injection pump sorted that out.

Change the gear in the transfer box for a pre-drilled one if it's not already been done.

Same speed but slightly lower revs. Though why any one would want to do 80/85 in one of the most unstable vehicles on UK roads, is beyond me. if you want a racer. Sell the tractor and buy a corsa or a clio.

Mine will happily sit at 70mph all day long and would probably do 85/90mph flat out but as redhand says why the feck you'd want to do it

Also fuel comsumption goes proper silly above 65/70 mph in any Landy !

85mph in defender !!! Doors will rattle the fuel indicator on dashboard will move faster then the speedo from full to empty !!!! Mine is defender ex mod 2.5n/a. Plodding on at 55mph. Happily
