Hi all i've got a 1994 300 tdi manual. At late when you have been driving for alittle while, or a motorway run, she will sometimes judder when you set in first from the lights or junction. Its not always, but can get so bad that the only way it will move is ti slip the clutch. Otherwise you get alot of bouncing, shaking and juddering, and very little to no movement. Like i said thou, only when hot, and not all the time. I have changed the clutch about 2-3 months ago, as that ripped itself apart.
Cheers all

I take it when you say juddering, you mean engine juddering as if it wants to die? Rather than a bolloxed prop shaft or diff?

I surpose its like trying to set off in to high a gear. Except its in first. Also, since this has started, when you clutch in to change from 1st to 2nd, or if you clutch in to stop, there is a clunk from the front end. The clutch that i fitted was a borg and beck, kit. Also checked the fork, and found that to be new and renforced.

So just to be clear, you get the engine well warmed-up, you come to some traffic lights, stop with the engione running and it is juddering? Is the gearbox in neutral with the clutch disengaged at this time? If it is, then I don't see how it can have anything to do with transmission components, it must be engine.

Cheers
Dave

No sorry to confuse lol. When you set off in first the car judders. Its like your trying to pull away in 3rd. It only does this after say about 30miles or so. The gears aren't hard to engage when warm niether when its cold. When you set off, from cold no judder. Once warmed up and you pull off at the lights/junction, then it really starts to judder.

Sounds a bit like an oil-contaminated clutch to me:(

So possible rear crank seal then. There was alittle oil in the bell housing, but assumed it had gotten in there from the rocker box, as that was lkeaking and dripping onto the housing. So i'm looking at another new clutch, and crank seal then. plus another day under the disco lol
