has anyone experienced a problem with the BECM ( body electrical control module ) Apparently these can give intermittant faults - but does anyone know what the symptoms are ... I have multiple various electrical failures.
Another apparent cause could be the interior fusebox - again has anyone had experience of this.
Or does anyone know where a connector block or earth connection may be hidden away and full of something skanky.

Yup, done a few BCU's and pass compartment fuse boxes. The back of the fusebox contains the IDM,(intelligent driver module)which works in conjunction with the BCU to control all the body and security functions.Last fusebox I did was because the sidelights and hazards would come on on their own and the alarm would go off randomly. It had had water in it and was fried.Water in a Disco - how unusual !

thanks for your comments on modules and fuseboxes - i have spent two days taking everything apart and checking connections etc. and amazingling have found no evidence of water ingress or naff connections ( I have been a motor mechanic and auto electrician for 35 years ) the trouble is if the fault is inside a control unit it will not be visible and with so many circuts down nothing shows up on diagnosis so I need to start changing things on a trial-and-error / suck-it-and-see basis. Please have a look at my related question headed "discovery es td5 electrics" - if you think its worth me replacing the fusebox or BECM I am happy to do so ( apparently the BECM needs main dealer reprogramming if replaced )- I dont mind spending money but I hate wasting it ( dont we all ) - In my dreams someone will suggest a hidden connection that I have not yet found
