Hi
I have a 1997 300Tdi auto and I would like to fit a front tow/push bar so I can make manouvering my 4 wheel trailer with stationary engine much easier. Has anyone got details so I can manufacture one? Or indeed one for sale. Thanks Tony.

Think I'd make an angled plate up, at least 5mm thick to strengthen the face and bottom of the bumper, then make a towing drop plate up, maybe 10mm thick and a buttress to the strengthened bumper section. I haven't seen any for sale ....

In fact it's something I've been meaning to do, but I'd need it de-mountable (like my rear towball) as I also go laning and off-roading where the lack of clearance is an issue .. ;)

The following pics are my rear towball/mounting plate, I guess something similar could be fabbed up for the front.

I just bolted a ball to the front of my Series 1 bumper, but is a disco bumper up to it? Plus the front face is not vertical. I'll measure up today and see if I can fabricate something.

I don't think so, hence my idea of fabbing strengthening plates up .. if you have some scrap bits of plate it could be done very cheaply ... ;)

Interesting! Is that purchased, and if so where from? Or did you fabricate it yourself? Also, is it the (American) standard 2" receiver hitch size and pin fitting?

I didn't make it, I think it was either a copy of the Scorpion Racing tow bracket, or the unit they copied off .. certainly it's both simpler but better made with better detail finish than Scorpion stuff.

Last year I and my nephew were close to ripping it off and copying a few for sale ... if there's a market for them. We reckoned we could sell 'em cheaply and still make a profit, just never got round to it and then someone mentioned the current regs regarding towbars and we figured we'd have too much to lose if something went tits up!
