Hi guys, I’m looking for someone who knows about the wiring on these cars.

I have an intermittent problem. 9 times out of 10 times the drivers electric seat will not work, when this happens the electric mirrors won’t adjust (although they will fold)...and the sunroof will not operate either.

The 1 time out of 10, when one works they all work, with no issues.

The carpet is bone dry on both sides and no sign of water ingress that I’ve found.

I’ve checked the loom that runs along the drivers side sill and all looks good with no obvious problems, the earths in the footwell look good and tight.

HELP !
Tia

I don't own a D3 but I do own a D2 and this sort of thing, where one problem is accompanied by others, probably means it will be traced eventually back to some kind of BCU or circuit board. If you can find the one that runs these three systems, you may well find it is damp or has a dry joint.
Do you have a wiring diagram for the vehicle??
But don't worry someone else like @gstuart will come along and give you a hand!:)

So today gents. I stripped and inspected the loom on the passenger side, all was dry and looking fine.
I unplugged the sunroof module, to see if anything else came to life, but nothing. I did the same with the rain sensor and the drivers seat....no luck.
Then I swapped the drivers seat with one out of my other D3 and still nothing.

the odd thing was everything worked all morning, just decided it didn’t want to play this afternoon.

Gents I bought an icarsoft today (I know not the best but I’m broke atm)......it pulled a code of B1A56 drivers seat slide relay failure.....any idea where this is located?

No idea, but under seat has to be a good start point.
If you remove seat base it may improve access? 4 torx screws whcih are accessed form the underside of the seat, bloody tight from memory, and some sharp edges to draw your blood!

I think if you go on topix you can buy 24hrs access, and in that 24hrs you can pull as nuch info as you need/can print, no idea on cost though.
Might be useful for wiring.

Icasrsoft pretty damned good, will read all the systems the gap iid will, but it will not programme, which tbh is not the end of thr world.

This os defo Garys territory as he has fitted elec seats to his D3, and I can rememeber him having wiring issues getting them to work.

I think there’s one built into the seat module under the drivers seat, but it can’t be that as I’ve swapped the entire seat out of my other D3.

Have you checked the wires from the seat that lead into the carpet then under the door foot trim plastic?
On the left of the car they have wiring issues on a main splice (under that same trim piece) as water gets in via a blocked sunroof drain, might be the same drivers side?

Hi

Any update please and how are u getting on with the fault , plenty to help if ur still stuck

Hi
Unfortunately no further forward....sometimes everything works, then next time none of it works...
I’ve had both seats out and checked every wire and rejoined every splice.

the only bit I haven’t done is the harness where it goes up from the footwell (passenger side) into the fuse box.

B1B85
B1B55
B1B56
B1B85
B1A56
THESE ARE MY CODES

as far as I can learn these are all related to one of the lin busses.
My next step was going to be removing the cjb and cleaning it up.
I’d love some help because I’m properly stuck.
Many thanks

hi @Jonnymoore1970

no probs, have u got a multimeter please and more than happy to help all I can

I’ll check out those codes for u , plus do u have access to wiring diagrams and workshop manuals plse , if u haven’t don’t worry I can find what ever u need

ie the Linbus circuit which also ties in with the medium speed canbus , the Linbus is basically just 2 x wires , u have a master and slave modules , being

rain sensor
Seat memory module
CJB
Sunroof module

don’t remove the CJB yet, also there a right sod to get out and back in again, by the sounds of it u have a bad connection, multimeter will help a lot and if ur handy using it , didnt want that to come across as rude in any way , just checking to see what ur skill levels are that all and not telling u how to suck eggs

with ur code reader have u tried turning off the lazy entry yet m plus do u gave an electric steering column

assume It doesn’t matter what key u use, u still get an error of items not working

Will it also help if I tell u what PIN numbers are the modules that part of the LINBUS age do u know them already

just so we get a base line of what ur spannering levels are at and what information u already have, can then start form where you’ve got to

hope that’s helps u a little bit and again please don’t ever think I’m trying to teach u hoe to suck eggs

apologises for all the questions, lol

Gary

Also meant to say , shame u haven’t got the other 2 x digit number on the end of the codes

leave that with me and I’ll find all the meanings for u

—————————————

B1B85 Memory control module - System internal failure - internal electronic failure
B1B55 Rain sensor module - General electrical failure - circuit voltage out of range
B1B56 Sliding roof module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
B1B85
B1A56 Antenna circuit - General electrical failure - circuit current below threshold
THESE ARE MY CODES

ref the repeated code ref B1B85 , did u mean fault code B1A85 Ambient light sensor circuit - Component failure - internal failure

the thing is without the second 2 codes numbers on the end they can mean another fault issue , however it will at least give us a start

do u know where the ambient sensor is, if not can easily tell u where that is and other modules , ps, have u checked that already

hope this is helping

Hi Gary...many thanks for the reply.

today I have removed the cjb I have cleaned every contact and earth, replaced every fuse with a new one (ott maybe).

I’ve put it it back together and everything is working perfectly.
This was a couple of hours ago, just checked again a minute ago and still all good.

I cleared all codes and went for a drive and checked for codes again.
B1c26 pedal motor feedback circuit
B1c32 steering column tilt solenoid
B1c34 steering column telescopic solenoid
B1a56 drivers seat slide control relay failure

No, definitely B1B85 MEMORY CONTROL MODULE

hi
I’m happy to tackle anything , I’m not good with electrics but I’m very mechanically minded....
I only have one key for the car and no I don’t have an electric steering column.
Thanks
