Hi all, been having issues as follows:
- slow / non-change of gear
- limp mode
- revs but no power
Looking around on here and elsewhere xyz switch seemed a likely culprit so have taken it out (wow that's awkward), opened it up. It's the type that looks like this: (this isn't mine but same type)

Cleaned it up with sandpaper, contact cleaner (seemed quite Ok inside actually) and went round and did a resistance check on every spring switch with an ohm meter to verify open / close. All seemed fine.

Re-fitted it without issue. Also had the auto box sump off to do an fluid and filter change which made refitting a lot easier.

Went to fire her up to refill the transmission fluid and... no cranking. Just an annoying chime I'd not heard before (similar to a chime you get when you leave the lights on, engine off and open a door). Tried and tried and then she cranked a few times. Then stopped again. By now battery is getting flat, so try to jump her off the series motor (LOL) but nothing again. Charging the battery off a charger now for next try.

Noticed on the dash the following:

The two lights (M, S) and gear indication were flashing. the gear indication was a D with a cross through it. This is new!

Before I get in any deeper has anyone seen this? I am worried I have either not quite got the connection sound on the xyz switch or (more worryingly) FUBAR'd the switch opening it up.

Any ideas?

George

Hi. The pic is not very clear but isnt that sign more like a crossed B rather than D? cos if it is you are in trouble: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/search/194592247/?q=crossed+b&o=relevance&c[node]=8&c[user][0]=9153 it's possibe that the first symptoms were also caused by the BCU cos it's in relation with the XYZ switch and as you played within that unrepairable switch it became worst(these bosch switches are not subject of cleaning like the other ones with contact lines). In thos case i'm affraid that you'll have to replace the BCU and this implies complex programming albeit you can try with the interior fusebox first maybe you are lucky

Yes I think it's a crossed B now I look again. Slightly better close up attached. Damn. Will read through the other postings. I did get a lot of horn tooting but assumed unrelated as I'd previously had alarm issues and don't lock it for that reason. My kate locked it and that's when the horn started.

It's a rough vehicle used for offloading.
