Hi, everybody,
I have a 53 plate Disco 2, it is chuffing like a tractor, drivers side of the engine. Is there anyone in the Tamworth area that has replaced the Head gaskets on a V8? I have the time, interest, inclination & enthusiasm to do the job myself, but, not the knowledge!! Any member willing to help, or, guidance? It runs on LPG & a few places I have taken it won't entertain working on an LPG vehicle. The manifold gaskets have been checked & are O.K. Obviously, certain repair outlets don't want to do the job, I need someone to help who is actually interested to help me get it repaired. The easy answer is to get rid, but, not having a great cash flow, if I did that, I would probably never be able to get another one!! If possible, I would like to get it sorted, as I love it!!

Bit far for me as I lives on the South coast but I wonder if you were to look in LZIR on the help map and maybe massage a few peeps local to ya, you might strike it lucky as the great Barrymore would say ;)

‘listerdiesel’ has rebuilt a couple of Thor engines and has has done some exceptional write-ups and pictures on the work, also on along with heads and gaskets.
Although listerdiesel (Peter) hasn’t been seen in the Forum since March this year he may still be contactable, or you can simply search the name to find all his posts.

Because you run on lpg it may not be the head gasket, it might of dropped a liner, the lpg runs hotter and causes the liners to move, it’s a common problem with the v8 engines on gas

The taping noise when the engine is at running temperature would be an indicator of liner issues.
But if there is an issue, then the vehicles cooling system is not 100% and therefore due to the engine seriously overheating, it’s NOT caused because of using LPG.
I never used LPG, I can afford petrol :D

Hi I’ve had several v8 disco 2 on lpg, it’s just the cylinder temperatures that increase on lpg, the temp gauge will read normal, what happens is the liners normally only one drop and it’s only by a few thou, it then let’s coolant into the cylinder, the problem is normal found when you come to start the car and the engine won’t turn over, I changed to td5 miss the v8
