Head Gasket Replacement?

Bought one of these, while it's cheaply made it did just the job and easier to control than the lever type ones.
A few of the valve seals were not seated and must have been moving up and down with the valves and letting oil through.

Some of that uspro gear is pretty bloody good.
DSD tools in Gravesend (also on ebay) seem good on prices.
Bought these recently 110 quid.
Named ones would be that price per socket.

Cleaning carbon deposits from the upper part of the valves, soaking in some WD40 at the moment, might losen it up a bit.
What's the recommend way to do it at home?
 
Was hoping to get the head back on and up and running this weekend.
Due to inexperience, or stupidly, I damaged the first valve stem seal so that plan went out the window!
Spent the day cleaning up intercooler pipes, intake manifold and the rest. Freed off the rocker adjusters and lock nuts and general tidying up as I seem to have used every tool I own!
Better order some more seals now.
 
Don’t buy the cheapest I’ve had some before and seem quite loose when pushed home
cant recall if the inlets or exhaust ones have the spring on , logic says inlet but not sure

The ones I bought are Elring and came in the top end gasket kit. They are tight to get on, had to use hammer and a socket.
Exact opposite to the ones which came off, two fell off and the rest pulled off with my hand.
 
Bare with me as its silly question time! (Yes another one)
Can I fit the head one evening and do the first sequence of bolting the head down and then the next two sequences with the angle gauge the following evening?
 
Yes no problem, when I did mine was a bit worried I’d miss one or do one twice so I numbered the bolt heads and ticked each one off on sheet at the different stages
Thanks. I was going to number the bolts also to save keep going back to the manual.
Good idea with a tick list, will do that aswell.
 
Yippee it's back together, apart from exhaust, antifreeze and then starting it up.
Must of set the valve clearances atleast 10 times just to make sure!

They will have my old one next week, as there’s a surcharge on the head , so they will be reconditioning that
 
Quite common to find the valve stem seals have migrated up the valve stem!
