Looking back on it I very stupidly sold my TD5 90 when a damaged 03 disco came up for a good price, thought i might have a go at it. Found it uses tanker loads of diesel and I just can't wait to sell her and buy another Defender (much better around the farm too) But this one takes bloody ages to change to top gear (auto box) i can be going steadily at 60 or 70 and it will take around a minute/minute and a half to change to top gear....realy beginning to p*ss me off, just wondering if theres anything wrong with it or if it's common? as she's definitely up for sale soon. Cheers

summats wrong obviously. not sure what though. but it explains all the fuel you are using.

Sounds like low oil pressure in pump or dodgy valve/solenoid to me, is it only 3/4 change or are they all at high revs?

hi - It's only on the change from 3 to 4, seems to do it for about 20 mins, and after that its fine, even if its been warmed up driving through country lanes for half an hour etc. When i first noticed it took her into the workshop and changed al the oils, old oils still looked alright though.

Would start with the gearbox speed sensor, if it's out of place (ie too far from pickups) then this would be more likely to cause 'slow' signal to ecu shift controller, otherwise the pressure release valve/solenoid maybe cutting in too early, although I can't see why this would cause your specific problem, I'll keep thinking.....
