disco 2 alarm fob problems

First of all intermittently and now permanently both fobs will not unlock,lock or de imobilise the vehicle. Both fobs have new batteries and i have even bought a new receiver and fitted it, still no good. Tried all the lock/unlock and pressing buttons and also the re-sync with ignition,door lock and bonnet switch, but that didn't seem to go as per instructions. Am pulling my hair out as what to do next.Any advice would be greatly appreciated(especially if it works) as only had vehicle 4 weeks and not impressed with Land Rover electrics at the moment
 
Tried disconnecting battery with old and new receivers but cant seem to get into re-sync mode. Is it same process as for 300 tdi or different.
 
Will have to give it another go tomorrow. I've now put old receiver back in place and put roof lining back. One thing I did notice was that receiver is held in place with duck tape but looks as tjough it should be bolted in place as its got an earth plate on one of the mounting holes. So when trying new receiver I connected a wire from it straight to the negative battery terminal, but this didn't make any difference. the mounting holes in roof strutt dont appear to be threaded either.
 
I have a problem with my TD5 fob not working with my car very well on my drive way.
It started happening last Wednesday night. Bizarre thing is that the key works fine at my work and everywhere else. Some interference started last Wedneday that is affecting the fob and the car. One of my neighbours has bought something new or has something that is not working. I bought a new car battery for £95 thnking it was faulty. Lucky I was able to bring it back.

I can get mine to work better if I hold the key fob horizontally at the top level of the rear windows when it is playing up.

Interference affecting fobs is really common on stacks of car inc the D2. The breakdown companies are tortured with it and often have to tow cars up the road a bit to get them going.
 
The only function the receiver above the headlining carries out is the setting/unsetting of the alarm combined with locking/unlocking. The key in the ignition switch once the door are open should re-mobilise the engine, the key has two seperate functions.
 
Sometimes the receiver has a bad earth-you can check this on RAVE..replacement units as you say have a modified earth you have to run to the a post earth point. You are supposed to attach it to the roof (not with duct tape!) but I made a bracket for mine to go above the courtesy light to keep it out of the way of all the condensation that is common up there.
Get your BCU checked out (mine managed to forget it knew my keys & was being a right arse with other stuff) & your bonnet switch & alarm sensors in the doors. Very often it seems like it could be an interference issue but really your BCU is telling you its a bit tired & worn out.
TBH, youll waste alot of time & money guessing at whats wrong, you're best off paying for an hour of diagnostics or trying to find someone who has a Nanocom.

Just read a thread about same problem with a 300. Seems to have cured problem by removing and replacing aerial connection on alarm ecu behind glove box. Does anyone know if alarm ecu is in same place on disco 2 so I can try this.

Don't think this has been mentioned - check the red light on fob comes on when you press button. If not, the fob is faulty (BOTH mine were).

Just an update to let you know that Disco has been to an independent Land Rover specialist who changed the BCU (body control unit). This seems to have cured my problems. I now have a brand new receiver which I think I will keep untill inevitably the sunroof starts to leak. Thanks for all the advice given.
 
Hi all after reading posts no help for me. Problem is last night I used nano to sync spare key and it stated that sync was complete, this morning when I opened door all hell broke loose with alarm going off. I tried putting nano back on but it will not communicate with ecu/ bcu etc. any suggestions please also is there any way I can tell if I done it correctly, cheers
 
it seems that for some reason you've got it immobilised...and as long as it's immobilised it will not comunicate with tester...

you didnt tell the whole story to make clear some things:

1. when you say spare key you mean you have the "main" key working but you needed a second one? ...if yes lock/unlock with the original key

2. did you unlock with the fob then when you opened the door it triggered the alarm or the fob didnt work and you opened with the key

3. did the fob lock/unlock the vehicle after you've sync'd it? ... i mean does the fob work at all?

answer to these questions and describe the whole thing with details if you want help cos it's a quite complicated issue and there can be various reasons
