Dear All,

Some time back I solved all the leak problems I had with my D2 except one. This leak is caused by water running down the windscreen and passing into the plenum chamber and through the cabin fresh air intake into the fan.

Water passes in here when there is a huge downpour or when in a car wash. I have explained the problem in more detail in this thread
http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/another-water-leak-question-117396.html

It appears that there is an air intake cover available from Landrover and it is mentioned in the RAVE manual updates and in the links in the attached thread.

My question is does anybody know where I can get one because I have to wash my car every 2 weeks in winter due to the salt here in Sweden and I don't want water pouring in each time.

If I had even a picture or tech specs I could fabricate one. I had one on my old Renault Laguna and they are just a simple piece of formed plastic.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Regards

Hi

I have put some sealer between the heater intake and the body on my D2 as there was quite a gap and I was advised on AULRO about this. It's hard to get at it properly so I have it in mind to strip some parts off to get at this properly at some point. I am still getting some water into the right hand footwell.

I'm not to bothered about leaks as I removed all the carpets about 1.5 years ago after they got a soaking due to the AC drains being blocked, and never bothered putting them back. At least it will keep them good if I ever sell.

Is that water leak guide from LR not for the D1? Just thinking that the part may not be available for the D2. Someone with Microcat could look it up.

Whats the rear chassis like on your D2 with all that salt?

Cheers, Andy

Andy,

The gap is not between the body and the air intake. The water actually pours into the open top of the intake directly into the fan. On my old Renault there was a plactic cap like a cowel to prevent water dropping vertically into the air intake. This is not on the D2 but it is refered to in the RAVE mauals as a problem and there is a retro fit cover available.

I would love to get one to stop the ingress. Does anybody know how and where?

In relation to your question about the salt, it can be a killer however, the underneath of the car is sprayed in a substance like tar. Most cars have this in Sweden and you need to get it done every 5 years or so. Costs between 400 to 500 Euros but it works a treat. No idea what it called.

Regards

Picture from Microcat attached. AFAIK the water should just drain away to the front of the air intake.

iansoady,

Thanks for the pic. Unfortunately I am aware of the plenum structure as this is all on the car and I have removed it in the past.

Once the top of the chamber, as shown in the pic, is removed you can see the air intake for the fan protruding through the bulkhead. I am looking for a cover that sits on top of this intake to stop water dropping in from above as the water run down from the plenum cover in the pic when to volume of water is excessive such as in a rain storm or car wash. The water plenum cover that runs below the windscreen fills up wihen excessive water cannot be drained fast enough and overflows through the small square filter holes. Once it does this it flows under the plenum cover into the top of the air intake.

So, once again does anybody know what I am talking about and does anybody have or know wher I can get one of these air intake covers.

Regards

Could you post first some photos of it? I'am willing to wait the photos and willing to help you in your problem.:)

Hi I'm having the same difficulty with water entering into the car via the heater intake.
I believe that it is water coming down the screen then onto the intake protrusion and where it is bolted at the top it is misshaped and it is this that fills and then directly overflows into the heater assembly / dripping down on to passenger foot well via the heater motor – Help – where do you get this modification from that is mentioned in RAVE?

StuB,

I have repaired this problem without the modification. I used an old plastic oil container. I cut it in half and made a roof type covering that prevented water going into the air intake and allowed air to go in under the cover. I held it in place with duct tape and it hasn't leaked since in either car wash or downpour.....

I had photos of this however they are on my other computer that died recently.

Give it a try...its easy and it works.

Regards
