Newly acquired freelander 2 ,td4 diesel. 2007. After going through puddles and creating a bit of a splash, my freelander starts to misfire. Can anyone tell me exactly where the air enters the engine air intake, I feel that water is getting into the engine, just can't see where the tubing from the air filter goes back to. Many thanks . J. If water got into the engine in any quantity, the engine would hydro lock.

The intake air vent on the LH front wing is ducted to the bottom of the air filter housing behind the LH headlamp. Take the air filter out of the housing to see if it's wet. Sometimes splashing through lots of deep puddles, some water finds its way into the filter housing. It will drain away through a hole in the bottom, but it can make the filter wet before it drains.

Also it's been known for the intercooler to get damaged by driving through deep water at speed, as the intercooler is very low down at the front.

Ok nodge68, just the info I need. I'll wait for the rain to stop down here and have a good look at my car. Many thanks for your reply.

Sorry I made a typo earlier, I meant if water had got into the engine, but I said air . Air is supposed to be going in, or it won't work.
