ive had to replace the drivers door on my disco, swapped all the window and regulator over onto the new door but since ive done this my window wont function properly, the window is being lifted on a slant so it is binding aginst the frame. the window drops forward towards the front and i cant figure out why or how to adjust it so the window raises and lowers square to the frame.
 
its come off the rail at one end my passanger one is the same, im going to have a look friday, will post what i did l8r
 
Sounds pretty similar to mine. It lifts with a judder then drops about 1cm (half an inch for the traditionalist). Ill wait to see what you did then copy it if you don't mind.
 
Hello. This has happened to me twice.
The cheap nylon rollers that slide along the channel guides break up after time. They are riveted on, so they want you to replace the entire regulator mechanism. I managed to find a close replacement for the roller a few years back for my rear window, and it has worked fine so far. Only cost me about $4 to fix what is a systemic design problem. Eventually everyones roller will break up and the window will jam.
In my case, I found a 25mm diameter nylon wheel with metal bearing but it was too thick. I filed it down to 5mm thickness. I then went to the window mechanism and filed off the lip of the rivet on the operator arm. I drilled and tapped a thread up the centre of the rivet. I fitted the new roller over the rivet shaft and then screwed a metal screw into the tapped hole to stop the roller coming off. Use thread lock if needed.

I have just had my passenger front mechanism fail the same way.
I am about to start the search again for a suitable roller. If I find one, I will be buying enough for all windows i.e., at least 6. If the thickness is too great, this time, I will have to pay a machinist to machine them all down, as it takes ages to file down and swarf ends up inside the bearing which will reduce its life span.

I would obviously prefer to replace with the original nylon product (even if it has a limited lifespan) if anyone can tell me where to buy them ?
 
Hi, Yes I tried also to buy from him but no response. Last I heard, his son was going to produce the solid and the clip-on version. No response to my emails so I did the following, today. I went to the local Bunnings (hardware store in Australia) and bought the model 4361 ball bearing rollers from 'Rolltrack' (see internet). It is 25mm diameter (perfect) but 6mm thick. This means it needs to be ground down to 4mm thick. I did this by grinding 1mm from each side. I fitted this bearing roller on my rear window a few years back and its still holding up well. There is no way I am going to pay $30 each for a solid brass version (which should cost about $10 each).
Refer to the attached photo showing the 4361 version untouched and the ground-down version.

Note: The nut and threaded shaft is too long and hits the scissor arms. After I discovered this, I had to pull the regulator out again and cut the nut thickness in half (the bloody thumb is the side affect from grinding down such a fiddley thing luckily the bone stopped the blade from taking it right off). Need to then hit it with a tack weld to stop it coming off.

I used clear silicon grease to repack the roller bearings after I flushed out the grinding swarf.
Bit of a nightmare job but should hold up for quite a while

The 'Rolltrak' 4361 roller has an M6 thread.

I re-installed the two modified top rollers today after my thumb incident. Word of advice, hold the roller with a pair of plyers not your fingers.

Greased everything with clear silcone grease (Molykote 111 by Dow Corning) the best.
I only changed the two rollers on the top runner channel (the one fixed to the actual window).

I did not replace the single roller in the lower channel as I would have had to remove one of the nut-serts riveted in the channel. Maybe a mistake, but I'll see how it goes. At least I know now what to do to fix it. :)
