Disco 1, dim headlight and no intument panel

Hey People!

Good morning to you all and Happy Easter!

Just wondering if anyone can help me with a little problem i have with my disco 1?

Recently brought a new toy for myself ( my disco ) and all was good for about a month when the head gasket went. £ 550 later all repaired by a local garage.

when i picked it up i drove it about 10 miles and the speedo started jumping then stoped working after 5 mins,also the diff lock light was flickering. I then turned it of re-started about 15 mins later and I had no instument panel at all.

all that works is the indicator light and main beam light.

The temp gauge reads cold all the time and fuel guage reads full! ( Its definatly not full)!

No rev counter, speedo, warning lights etc.

Also the offside headlight is very dim??

I drove it a couple of times since and gradually the battery died and i realised the alternater fuse had blown, I replaced thinking it was just corroded ( it looked very green ) but no charge from the alternator.

So yesterday I replaced the alternator thinking this might be all the problems?

It now charges up fine but still no intument panel and dim headlight!

Ive had the instument panel out and checked all the connections ... they look fine and no obvious wires off etc.

Spoke to the garage again and they surgested it might be a wiring short and to be carefull it doesnt blow the alternator again!

So has anyone got any ideas??

shame. trader, you could have taken it back for them to sort!

download a copy of rave, landrover's workshop manual. theres links to it on landyzone, also can be found on google. in it are all the circuit diagrams and fault finding procedures.

from what you've described, I'd check the basics, like fuses, but gut feeling is your gonna have a few bad earths.

depending on which model disco it is, depends on how much electricery will be on it, but rave will most definitely help.

Should be 3 wires on alternator that controls rev counter I believe ! Speedo could be a broken wire or popped out of back of panel rare that tho !

Need any more info ask
