I have now finished removing all the bolt and cable etc that hold the engine into the donor Disco (Dento) and am ready to lift the engine out with help from other looneyzoners (TOSSERS) but have one question.

What points should I be lifting with? There is the obvious lifting eye at the front of the block but I cannot see anything at the back.
Is it better to use a large ratchet tie down strap hung all the way around the block/cluch housing or is there somewhere else I should consider?

All help is appreciated, even the daft and moronic, especially as it's Monday tomorrow and I want a laugh at work to ease the way back into the working week.

Cheers all

There was no lifting point on the back of Pikeys when we lifted that out....we cheated though and took out the front of th car....just so we dint have to lift it so high. we used a strap and chain to lift it

Cheers guys. We used some nylon rope through the front lifting eye and rope wrapped around the bellhousing at the rear.
Lifting was the easy bit but we swung the engine over the front engine bay body work after letting the tyres down and out she came.

Last question. Has anyone put a 200Tdi into an engine stand? If so what bolts did you use in the engine to hold it?

your a smarter man than me if you can figure out how to hold a 200 on one of theose clarke/machine mart stands without the use of a grinder a mig welder and some inch angle

and the use of the orginal engine mounts

whats wrong with a wooden box on some shopping trolley wheels ?

Got it on a pallet at the moment and it's safe, but as I had a stand I wondered if the engine would go on it. But I don't think the engine is capable of taking it's own weight. I might weld some engine supports to the legs of the stand to take the engine mounts and use the upright to help hold it steady.

that's what i've done in the past, those stands are fine for little 1100 jap engines but half a ton of landy lump has it straining

cant beat a pallet and some shopping trolley wheels for moving engines

I am about to start sometime this month to remove my 200tdi disco lump out and put it in garage for new seals etc etc then put it in my defender ex mod 2.5n/a. How long should I expect to to this ? An hour ??

I meant into my garage etc and while it is out I could the seals and Cambelt etc get it ready and then put it one side inside the garage etc
