Hi all
I have a w reg 4.0 with a knackered engine(was going to convert to diesel but too much work) so I'm looking at a straight engine replacement.as I say I have a 4.0 Thor and have been offered a 4.0 gems, guy selling tells me the block etc is same and all I have to do is swap ancillaries from my Thor and belt position will be correct and put my inlet manifold on and that's it,using the gems heads aswell.
Just wondering if anyone tried this or knows if its correct, have checked search but nothing definitive.
Cheers

The blocks are the same.

I think the crank sensor changed position with the upgrade and you might need to close a few blanking plates that the Thor doesn't use that the GEMS did.

The sumps are different too, and I'm not sure if it's a case of just swapping them over or not.

Many thanks : )

Make sure you change the cam sprocket too.BTW the crank sensor plate will need swopping and spot welding back into place if you want to do it properly.

John, Tell Heathrow engine centre that. They just cowboy it in with mastic & push the car out the doors.
!!! Why does that not suprise me..... The last one I did was to mop up where a large garage in Swindon had given up.I happily did the job,ig welding the crank sensor plate back into place. It ran a treat when finished and breezed through its emissions test.
Its more work than a simple engine swop....

Well thanks for your replies : ) tomorow is the day, gonna start it,fingers crossed.
Will put progress up as I can.
Thanks again landyzone'rs
