Difference between defender 'car' and defender 'van' body types

I'm 17 looking at getting a defender 90/110 or series 3 maybe, but the big thing for me is insurance and is the body type is classed as a '3 door estate' the insurance is around 10,000. But if it is classed as a '4x4 utility van' is around 1,000.
So is there any way to know what body type it is before buying it?
Also, how is a defender/series 3 as a first car?

So if it aint got windows it's a van? Just want to make 100% sure or it could cost me £9,000

I'd presume that if you look at the tax disc it'll say lcv not plg like my disco commercial does! Van or car in disco terms at least

Where did you get the 1 k quote my lad is 17 and getting quotes of 3k for our 90 "van"

With Aviva, that was with me as main driver and both parents as named and they've got no claims/convictions

hey, im in the same position as you, looking at £10,000 for third party only! what engine size are you looking at?

iv just managed to get it upto 14,000 for saying its a van
