Could anyone tell me if a rr axle has a different diff ratio to a 1988 90. i have searched the forums and although there is lots of info about disco axles I cant find any for a RR. I have a 1988 90 with a very leaky rear diff casing bought front and back axles from a rr but new to this so do not understand if I have to change the diifs from the old axle or not. intending to only change the back but the front one does have vented discs so will it brake better?

would have thought rr rear would be better as disc, front one would need the later wider radius arms or one fitted on disco rrc front

What is the difference between a 10 spline and a 24 spline? would I need to change anything else?

halft shafts on 1988 90 would be 10 spline as rrc or disco ,but later disco rrc from around 92 on 24 spline, disco ,rrc had wider front radius arms ,90 .110 after 93/4

so I could just change the whole axle no problem, just have to remember if i break a half shaft? Thought about changing the front as my swivels on one side are worn but excellent on the rr axle.

fit rr axles .there all basically the same ,and all disco rrc or def apart from some military def are 3.54 diff ratio, but you should need wider radius arms to fit rrc axle to 90

I've fitted a range rover rear axle to my 92 defender, fitted straight on. It stops so much better now. Use the radius arms from a rangie and the front should bolt straight on.

Many thanks for the advice gentlemen I think I will bolt the rear axle on and maybe strip the swivels from the RR axle and put them onto my 90 axle. sounds simple but no doubt will result in a couple of temper tantrums and a visit to the pub before sheer determination cuts in.

Yea the radius arms are the same Eary RRC had narrower bushes but later stuff I.e

After 1985 was all wide bushed front end.

Early 90/110 Cv's are regarded as stronger in the offroad world. but the inner shafts are only 10 spline diff end so its swings and ropundabouts.

Also note that swivels are quite different bearings railco bushes etc.

Can be swapped out

Best front axle IMHO is a 4 pin 110 or 90 one strong shafts strong cv's strong everything but these fetch a fair few quid.

Look st the swivel housing mounts if they are 6 bolt type i.e Early then they you will need the radius arms aswell. If they are 7 bolt later tyre then it Should diff/shaft spline all fit however Rangie front brakes are usually twin line where as 90's are single line so will need your original calipers etc

Mine are the same as Disco 1's until up unto 1994 Later ones i.e 300 series ones may have larger type but most RRC have either the old Skinny type Pre EFI and EFI on to 1994 have the same as my 90

pre 93/4 defenders where built with the thinner radius arms ,disco allways had wider arms as rrc classic from ca onwards ,early thinner bush ntc7307 later wider ntc6781 def didnt get wider arm till 300 tdi 93/4

Its possible mine was messed with I suppose but it has always been fitted with the wider ones sinc I've owned it. I have a set of narrow ones in the shed and dismissed them as early RRC only.
