Hi

Has any body out there got a second hand diff for a series III 88" landy on a V reg 1980. Or know any one that can set mine up.

I had a broken half shaft, so I striped it all down and removed it ok, striped the diff and rebuilt it, but forgeting that it needs setting up properly.

People locally want silly money just to check that it's ok.

PLEASE HELP as I'm desprate to get her back on the road.

Cheers
Andy :croc:

Hi,

I'm hoping that you have a SWB? If so, you can use the diff from almost any SWB Series REAR AXLE, and maybe from an early LWB Series 2. You can also use the FRONT diff from almost any Series SWB or LWB. IE .... thats any diff that can be pulled out of the axle as a complete package. But be aware that the front diff does not have a filler plug on the diff, it fitted to front of diff-pan. This means you have to fill the axle with a measured amount of oil, poured down the axle tube, before you fit the half-shaft.
Also be aware that some LRs are fitted with RR diffs, by POs.

If you have broken a Salisbury (or similar) axle, it easier/cheaper to replace the whole axle with a 2nd hand unit. All LWB S3, and later LWB S2A used the Salisbury axle. It is VERY heavy.

Both my front and rear axles have filler plugs on the front of the diff pan. 1981 Series III 88".

late series 3's had filler bungs in the diff pan. Basically if you have a flat bottom axle housing you have the later typre (and better ground clearance) if you have the round bottom axle casing then you need a filler bung in ya diff for the front. All early round rounded bottom axle cases ones had filler bungs in the diff housing.

Spyderman you have the later type with flat bottom axle cases.

I was wondering why the front diff that you gave me had a filler plug in it, handy, as the front has a diff guard which makes filling it a bit more fiddly.

Flat bottomed axle case....Mmmmm, more ground clearance, so old ones don't give the 13" then?
