1995 p38. Is it OBD? There was a feature on code readers in last months Car Mechanics mag, which has realy made me decide to get one. If the RR is obd it be much easier, as can then use it on my family cars aswell.

Thats all im after. The ex had the check engine light come up, and i ended up taking it to my firms mechanic for him to plug it in, as wasnt prepaired to pay the £ 60 local garage wanted to charge to do it. Is the socket OBD? My firm mechanic going be updating his kit in next couple months, and is willing to sell me his current one.

I bought the Bearmach Hawkeye which is one of the various handheld code readers dedicated to land rover cars. At the moment the Hawkeye is a bit limited but there are some updates due at the back end of March. There are others as well such as the Faultmate which seems popular. The main difference seems to be that the Faultmate is restricted to the first vehicle it is connected to where the Hawkeye is restricted to the one model range i.e all P38s. Currently, the Faultmate seems to have more functions. There is also the EAS unlock software and cable which is very useful and cheap! I have that as well, although the Hawkeye does cover the EAS but the cable is more expensive than the EAS unlock software (free) and cable (19.95 on ebay) but this only covers the Air Suspension.

The Faultmate covers every system on the P38 including the BECM, it can be either single vehicle or multi vehicle depending on the licence you buy. The single vehicle version can be licenced for up to 3 vehicles:D
