Hi
On my Defender I've got a set of 235/85/R16 tyres on steel rims that have gone very rusty. I've seen a set of 7 x 16 modular steel rims advertised for sale. My question is will my tyres fit on a 7" rim?

Thanks
Chris J

No - 8.5" is the correct tyre size

If the sweet spot for a 235mm tyre is a 8in wheel, in the wheel & tyre packages from both Craddock & Paddock, how come they only sell 235mm tyres fitted to 7in rims ??

Weird, I just ordered a package deal from Paddock for 235/85/R16 tyres on 7x16 rims. They say the 7x16 rims are out of stock, so I thought this might be a good opportunity to switch up to 8x16 rims. I e-mailed to ask if they could put my tyres on a 8x16 rims instead, but the response was: "NO, they will not fit on 16x8 rims, sorry."

I am currently looking to order a new set of wheels/tyres and all the web info I have checked so far says that this tyre size needs a 7 inch rim.

Definitely not trying to argue. There's just some conflicting resources out there and I wanted to check with the egsperts

I think this is TMHM's source: Cross reference table: Car tyre tips - Pneus Online

And another source says 8in is the upper limit for 235mm tyres: Tyre Calculator - Alloy Wheels, Rochford Tyres - Specialist supplier of alloy wheels and tyres packages, Fast Delivery, Buy Online. (Edit: I think this is Pikey's source too)

Of course, as I said, the folks I can find actually selling wheel/tyre packages for Defenders all seem to put their 235mm tyres on 7x16 rims, so there's a yet another conflicting source.

Anybody running 235's on 7in rims? 8in?

I put 235 85 16 onto 7x16 black modulars on all the defenders I sell. They seem to be fine. We run 3 Defender TD5's 110 hard tops with this combo on and they are worked hard off road with no problems. Have put 265's onto craddock replica boost alloys before and I think they're 7 inch but I could be wrong
