Hello, I have a rattling noise coming from the timing chain compartment. is there a way to fix this by adjusting the tensioner without major dismantlement of the chain compartment ? Thank you

no ,the plastic guides can break up or chain wear etc but in either case head and front cover need removing, are you sure its the chain have you tried running engine with ancilliary belt off

Hi, thanks, not I haven't tried with the belt off. Which belt is this one ?

if removing the belt makes no difference and you still feel its the chain ,it will need head off and front cover off but you should check stuff as you proceed, cam and rollers for wear injector springs pushrods etc as you go,without hearing the noise its difficult to give definitive answers, you can check the tensioner it uses engine oil pressure and also spring loaded, if removed it should be extended to its max ans so need slight pressure as its refitted
