I have each of those three. I have also just ordered the Skytag roof lettering (£30) via Landywatch. At least then if it is stolen it can seen from the sky :(.

You will also get lots of good advice about how and where you park it i.e. on full lock if you have a disklock, with your difflock in neutral (confuses those who don't realise from driving them away); behind other cars; using a sentry post if you can;

others have also considered fitting a tracking mechanism, which can vary from £100 to £400 to be fitted.

Try block locks on all the doors. Means drilling but its better than getting it nicked.

Now im no car thief but when i see locks like that i chuckle, surely you could stick some sticky back plastic over the window, then use an automatic centre punch in the corner of the screen breaking the glass and because of the sticky plastic keeping all the glass together thus making no noise, just remove the glass and climb in.
Or as the rear windows are held in with rubber just use a stanley knife to cut them away and reach in and undo the locks?

So the main point of the door locks (as with any security) is to slow them down. Getting a peddle cover off, or cluch claw without an open door is a real pain even with a key to unlock it.

I've decided not to post the rest of the measures in place.....could you break the windows, doubt it. :p
 
pretty sure the glass would break eventually.

unless its several inches thick and bullet proof which from the pics im pretty sure im right in saying its not...

there is a much easier way to get in the windows but im not gonna post it on here :(
 
shirefabrication SPAM !!:nospamhere: anyway back onto topic, mines parked behind a locked gate with a lazer running across the yard setting off an alarm out of reach of hiabs, also if it looks like a nail, knowone will want to nick it ;)

I bought one. Its ok, but it could do with a handle on it as its a beast to move into place, and it does rotate around the brake pedal, possibly giving enough access to cut the pedal at least. I think for the normal scrot it is a deterent.

Excavate 1 or 2 ft down into the drive, insert boat anchor chain one of those huge ones, fill with concrete leaving a few feet of chain.

Weld large bracket onto bottom of rear chassis rails

Buy MASSIVE lock

Lock defender to drive…….job done
 
dr evil, i like your idea, wouldnt be nicked then without you noticing :) although then you have a large chain perminantly sticking out your drive, 2 MASSIVE locks and a removeable the chain ?
 
Grow grass round the chain to hide it ;)

The chain wouldn't really be removable without a mini digger or pneumatic drill

Or to chop it you'd need a gas axe or disc cutter, super safe way of keeping your landy yours
 
In the never-ending saga that is Defender security, I am now in a personal debate about one of two options here..

(firstly, I already have a steering wheel lock, and am having an immobilizer upgrade + alarm as soon as the funds are in)

So which does Landyzone think is a better bet at the moment:

The gear lever lock:

I'm parked on a quiet, but considerate street, so I would hope HIAB is an unlikely event (famous last words) my main concern is the opportunity thief having a crack, or a stole-to-order crew tryng to nick off in it over night.

The gear level lock wouldn't stop a tow would it? because they could just depress the clutch and be away in it?

Locking the clutch up, equally.. wouldn't stop them dropping the handbrake and just towing it away..?


That sounds to me like the gear lever lock is a bit better though. It's also considerably more visible... and easy to fit on and off. Both devices would indeed stop a drive-off I believe.


Such a sad world we live in that the first thing you have to pour your pennies into is stopping some other scrote nicking your hard earnt truck.
 
I think the gear lock would be harder to remove, the cluch look like it would only take cheepo padlocks, easy to crop/slice.
plus the gear lock allows fitment of a full pedal lock if you want.

wish I'd been more creative when I signed up ;)

I think the visibility, ease of fitting (not crawling around under the steering wheel) and enhanced security (what you say is quite true, a pair of bolt cutters would see the clutch one off) will lead me off towards getting the gear lock.
