Hi all,

I'm currently having a bit of a dilema...!

I have a Defender 90 CSW (Larry III) which I have spent 2 years improving/changing and now have it just the way I want it. It looks quite understated (I think) but I've spent thousands on it and it's now pretty much as comfy, quick and sound as possible.

The other halfs cousin told me a couple of days ago that he's taking delivery of an Evoque next month for the mrs and that means that the school running Disco 3 has got to go...

It's a spotless 54 plate, fully loaded HSE with only 35k miles and FSH. He wants £14500 to get rid of it...

We recently took part in the H4H European rally in the Def and it didn't miss a beat. On the rally were a few D3's and D4's and I have to admit, it did seem that they had the best of both worlds. They are obviously super-comfy and spacious etc, but also more than capable when the tarmac runs out...

We're going up next weekend to have a look and I have to admit I'm very tempted...
It would mean that I'd have to say goodbye to the 90, which will be hard, but it also seems that this may be too good a deal to ignore..?

What should i do troops..?
I know about a few of the running repair/issues that the D3's can suffer from, namely Bushes, belts and handbrake etc, but if all these are up to speed what do you think..?

I'd be grateful of any constuctive advice/opinion to help me make a decision.

Thanks in advance,

Disco 3.................never.
Defender all the way would be my advise.
The wife has a Disco 300tdi & I don't know what to replace that with one day.

because its a piece of eletronic **** that when it gets old like the p38 will be far worse than a p38 knows how to be and discos loose money like a stone your by far better off sticking with the motor that you have spent your time money blood sweat and tears in to making your own and its a defender by far better than a disco

Hi Fraze,

Keep the Depender for a few more years.
That's a crazy price for an old 54 plate D3.
Far to much money.
You Defender will still be running long after the floor has fell out of the D3.

The d3 is a great motor but it is totally different from the 90. It depends what you want from a car.

The d3is great for general family use and has the capacity of a van with the rear seats down. More power and comfort too.

I would agree that is a bit steep for a 54 plate tho. Get him down in price and have both. Good luck with what ever you choose to go with.

Thanks again troops!

Is £12k more of a realistic price..?
Here's the spec again;

Disco 3 TDV6 HSE, Cairns Blue, 35k miles, FSH, Imaculate condition in and out, not offroaded or towed, usual HSE spec with detachable tow bar and privacy glass added.

Hm probably about right but agree £11,000 would be nearer, pity about the privacy glass though. Still I would keep the Defender. Bear in mind what others have said above - its 8 years old and well ready for lots going wrong.

Sounds to me as if you want us all to to say have the d3,only my opinion,so go for it have the d3,got all the bells and whistles, looked after so it wont break down,
I have a 110,so saying this with a bit of tongue in cheek.

its ready for a very expensive service 8 years old new front and back cam belt time as well as all the oils being done on it so 11 grand plus another grand for a decent full service and belts not worth it is it

Thanks again troops.
I'm starting to lean towards keeping the Defender...

I've posted this thread again, as I'm trying to get as much informative feedback as possible.

Thanks again,
