Good morning peeps. I needed to swap the tow bar on my DCPU over the weekend for a drop plate adjustable one.

However my dad was a little over enthusiastic with the crack bar and when he tried to undo one of the bolts on the cross member of the Land Rover the 'nut/stud' that is welded behind it came loose!

I think he managed to break the welds on it! So now i am left with a small hole with nothing to bolt into.

I have had a look but i can't seem to see how to get behind it to possible fix it.

Any suggestions? I suppose the other option would be to get a Fuel tank guard with a removable tow bar point on it?

Help would be appreciated as i don't have a rear recovery point now  and the snow is fast approaching!!:D

is it /would it be poss to weld a stud in its place ??
this then would give you the mounting point you require ???

only a idea as cant think of any other way to do it ???

Unlesss you are a decent welder I'd not try and weld something as important as a tow bar mount point. The stresses on them are huge when towing even a small trailer. I'd be looking at cutting a decent sized access hole that would allow me to slide in a piece of 2"x1/4" flat bar with the nut pre welded. Then weld the flat bar in place with a thinner cover plate welded into the cut out to make it look pretty.
