I am currently having a master debate about wether to keep my 90 or chop it in and get myself a bobtail disco/RRC. Basically I only use it for laning and P'n'P days and the odd road trip here and there, its not a daily or anything like that. I have had a Disco and it went everywhere I needed it to really although the overhangs use to **** me off so I went and got me a 90 which I am happy with but I do miss certain comforts, door seals that work for example and heaters, you know, the usual stuff.

I can't help but think about chopping the 90 in and using some of the money to get a bob tail, I would hope I would be left with a bit of cash as well which I could put towards another project so my question is to those who have experienced both whats the pros and cons? Am I going to gain much here or is it just not worth it. I kinda know the answers but a little debate will help me figure out what I want...

I have even though about getting a SWB Pajero, one of my mechanics is a Mitsu specialist and they have a lot higher durability than LR's...

if you're going to go the mitsi route, look for a shogun, rather than a pajero, as shoguns have rear difflockers as standard, whereas on paj's it was an optional extra and the majority just have LSDs. note also the 2.5 is very underpowered for the vehicle, so if you're looking mk2 its either got to be 2.8td or 3.0v6 petrol :)

I had a lwb shogun and loved it to bits, bloody reliable and the autobox I found was a lot smoother than an disco autobox of the same age. more comfy and way more toys than a disco and just as good, if not better at the little bit of offroading I actually did with her. the only downside was the steady 20mpg she'd drink though admittedly the swb would be better on juice.

JKx

Yeah I would go Shogun for the rear diff, they are better spec'd vehicles although parts are bloody expensive. I had a LWB for years as a works shunter, would always start, drive perfect and never go wrong which is why I quite fancy another, shame its got front props as thats its only real weak point...

Bobtail disco

But then I am biased.. Just do t buy a **** one with chequer plate covering a nasty join

I do like the bobs and yours is nice, I wouldnt go anywhere near a ****ty one, got a few years in the trade so should be able to spot a bodge (and if I dont I deserve the pile of crap I would be buying). Only thing that puts me off a bob is how well the unseen stuff has been done...

Could you chop one yourself Jon?
Then you know its been done properly.

Yeah I have thought about this as well but its hassle, I am hoping to be starting a new project car soon so didnt want to do 2 vehicles. I do like the idea of the Shogun as well though, they are so bloody comfy and reliable its just a pity theres no articulation on the front...

I will be sticking with the 90 for now though, not really sure what its worth but got to be a few quid, I have replaced/upgraded/repaired every part of it now except the gearbox which I would do before selling, will be a good 90 for someone when I do sell...
