Hi

My 59 plate FL2 has, since I got it 18 months ago, given me between 27 and 40 MPG. Recently, that's dropped way down to 29 - 30. I've checked the tyres and they are correctly inflated.

Any suggestions as to what the problem could be, or what I could (easily) check?

clogged injectors, knackered maf, poor quality fuel even? presume your driving patterns havent changed, ie more short journeys now etc?

Driving patterns haven't changed. Fuel may be an issue - have been using supermarket fuel, so perhaps using a more expensive premium fuel on next fill-up would be best.

Is there an easy (i.e. cheap) way of checking the first two options on the list?

It could well be your particulate filter becoming clogged. We had a 59 plate that was getting worse and worse MPG wise. Took it for a trip to France and the long motorway journey improved the economy by c.10 MPG.

Also, don't be using that supermarket rubbish for fuel. You may as well use chip fat.

I changed to esso and what a difference it made I used to be under the influence that supper market fuels were ok and so was the wife then the wife (hers is petrol) stated to have problems and while we were talking to another person who worked on the petrol for Corte said she would no use their petrol ( Morrison's) as she had similar problem and so had a lot of other people .1 loosing power 2 not so many miles per gallon (sorry old school) ltrs and 3 miss firing. so I changed to shell and so did the wife , then I was nearly out of fuel one day and we were near the daughters and there is a esso station there so I went in and noticed a tab on the pump it said new improved and better performance or something similar, so I tried it and the wife even filled her car there , and with in a week the wifes car was running a lot better and mine was too , so now we both use esso and would not go back to supermarket fuel only if we were desperate! and we get Tesco point too.

Yeah Tesco fuel is made by Esso, Morrisons is crap, and their diesel is largely bio diesel which if you read the books isnt recommended for either the FL1 or FL2 engines
Don't know who makes Asda's fuel or Sainsburys, although never had a problem with Sainsburys but know people who've had a problem with Asda's

Problem here is that the supermarkets are 3p per litre cheaper than Shell, and I don't even know where the nearest Esso is anymore since they all got taken over

Supermarkets are typically 7 to 10 €uro cents a litre cheaper where I am so no contest.
