Hi there, have had my landy a couple of months now, when i got it the winch worked fine but since then i havent used it. Came round to using it today and it doesnt work, DEAD, have checked, cleaned and WD'd all of the connections and still no joy, its not had a dunking or anything like that just been rained on a fair bit. When i move the selector arm on the top it just moves freely, doesnt give any resistance. Is this correct? im a total winch novice so forgive me if thats a stupid question. I belive the winch is a T Maxx EW9000. Any help would be great....cheers...

is there power getting to the winch/solenoid? what do you mean by selector arm? Are there any noises coming from it at all?

no clunks or clicks at all. I mean the arm on top of the winch which allows me to select in, clutch, or out options. When should the solenoid click?

the lever you descibe is the clutch/freewheel lever. The freewheeel is either in or out. Direction change is done by the handset. It sounds to me like you have a connection problem with your main feed or earth.

Ok mate, thanks for your help, il give every connection a check and see if i can get to the bottom of it. had all of the connections off the winch itself today and cleaned them. Could it be a problem with the control?

yes it could be the control, it could be the solenoids, it could be the motor etc etc. If you want to test the control you can do it by simply shorting the pins in the remote socket. You need to make sure the winch is in freewheel first though. This should help keep your fingers, face and limbs intact if it should suddenly start up.

First you need to make sure there is power. A tv won't work until you plug it in either.

Once you have established that there is power to it then you can start looking for the fault.
