Well, just saw a nail in my BF Goodrich this morning, and looks like it may be too near the wall for a repair :doh:

Wouldn't care....only put them on 6 months ago.......so looks like a new one is required....anyone know who are doing good deals on them?

The size I have on is 265-70-16

Never really trusted those tyre welds - have a couple of cans in the boot, for if I am stuck somewhere for an easy fix till I can get to a tyre shop, but thats about it for those things....

Although they do work to a point they're illegal for road use in the uk. I certainly wouldn't trust one as a long term repair either.

Partco do the kits that are used in the breakdown industry. They're only about £25 but are a road legal version of the string. I've used them on truck tyres aswell as car tyres. As far as I'm aware, one of our trucks is still driving around on a repair that I did back in october last year.
 
If it makes you feel any better, this tyre was written off after 19 days.

The track to my house is made up of granite chippings, and I thought that putting BFG AT,s on would be the end of punctures !.

They are only to fix small holes like nails etc, I've used the strings numerous times in the last 18 years and never had a failure yet. if OP only has a nail hole the authorities would be hard pressed to find it, you would have to point it out to them as hole that small would be almost un-noticeable. Admittedly there are better options if you want to remove the tyre from the rim, but with the strings if you are quick enough, you can extract the nail and have it plugged and be on your way again with enough air left in the tire to keep driving on it.
 
Just an idea on this. If you have an ATS tyre place take it to them. Ask for a major repair. They don´t advertise this service but I found out about it from a guy who runs a hire fleet. Takes a couple of weeks but they can repair any puncture, even holes.

Have it going to my local tyre man for further investigation, in the hope that it can be repaired, and save forking out for another new tyre....
 
Some kids knocked a nail into my rear door-mounted spare on the Disco. Right into the shoulder of the tyre too - little bastids. Caught them in the act, but too late to prevent them getting the nail through. No tyre place will touch a repair, as it's a spare, I don't want to replace it. My next option is to throw it in the back of my daily, go to some back-street palce and have a tube put in it.

Since it's part of my "offroad only" set of tyres then i'm sure they will oblige. ;)
