Hi, sorry for posting such a basic question but i cant see any posts that tells me the answer or in RAVE (well, not so i can understand it).

Ref yr2000 petrol 4.0 Ltr Thor engine - looking from the front of the car into the engine bay, what are the cylinder Nos on the left bank (nearest to expansion tank) and the cylinder Nos of the right back (nearest the EAS unit)

many thanks in advance

Then there are the coil pack connections down the back. You could be doing with knowing that too if you ever change them or the leads. I have it somewhere but can't place it at the moment so if you need it I'll go and check the car tomorrow and post back. (Unless some kind soul has it to hand now.)

Yes, just feel your way and do it one at a time. The coil packs are just small square boxes that bolt on. Effectively like two square distributor caps. The leads just push in.

Replaced leads - sounds ****e and vibrates like hell.Worse than before i change them.

Checked as per info given above - connected to coil pack correctly - connected to correct cylinder -?????????????????

..........front..........
2 1
4 3
6 5
8 7
..........rear............

Is the above correct - cant think what else it may be ?

From RAVE workshop manual:
Firing order .................................................. ................... 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
Cylinder Numbers
Left bank .................................................. ........................ 1-3-5-7
Right bank .................................................. ...................... 2-4-6-8
No 1 Cylinder location .................................................. . Pulley end of left bank

runs smoothly with lead 4 and 6 swapped on spark plug?

what does this mean - coil 1 & 3 fooked? - can they be tested to confirm ? or could the firing order be up the swanie

done a bit more testing, for a smooth running engine with as it should be acceleration,no vibrations through the body shell and engine ticking over without missing a beat i have had to swap the leads on the plugs on cylinder 4 and 6 also leads on plugs on cylinder 3 and 5.This with the leads correctly located on the coil packs as per information in RAVE.

From this i conclude the numbering of the cylinders to be:

................front..............
2 1
6 5
4 3
8 7

...............back...............

How can this be?

It cant be. Unless there has been some jiggery pokery with your coil pack.

no 1 is front passenger side then 3,5,7 ,how many coil packs have you if 4 it fires 2 cylinders at one time one spark been wasted youy must have leads connected wrong ,it is marked on coil pack iirc

are you sure No 1 cylinder on front passenger side as others have said No 1 is at front on drivers side ?

Looking from front of engine back towards scuttle.
Number 1 is first cylinder on your right. Next one is 3 next one is 5 next one is 7.
First cylinder on your left is number 2 next is 4 next is 6 next is 8.
