Hi guys wondered if anyone has ever tried to see if a bmw e39 4.4 crankshaft and pistons would go into a 02 4.4 vogue, techno help needed on this one me think.

As Far as I know, whilst the engines in principle are the same, a number of modifications and changes where made to suit the Land Rover product...one such was the crank case was changed to fit the Front Diff....Oil feeds were different to suit the extreme angles demanded by LR....And (I could be wrong on this one) the Crank was strengthed to handle the lower down torque tuning on the LR M62TUB44 against the BMW units!

I did see on the Bay full of E's a L322 Crankshaft recently....

More research is required I think!

Many thanks for that info saint V8, I have been told that the part number for the crank is the same, I am looking at putting the crank and pistons into mine as it has a noisy piston or small end noise also the bottom end rattles a bit on start up.

They all do that sda. It's the chain on the vanos system, the oil bleeds back past the valve when sat, so until it gets oil pumped back to it it has a slight knock. All of the m62 engines do it even in the beemers. I think a slightly thicker oil can help. But not much.

Cheaper to replace the whole engine than strip and rebuild

Yep i know the noise you are on about, already done the timing chain\tensioner and guides last year this noise is on all the time when you accelerate but not bottom end 99.9% sure it's gonna be a piston. i can get a crank and pistons for £200 of the bay and do the work myself, which is probably better than buying a duff engine. Better the one you know springs to mind. thanks again for the info
