Series 3 Converting to throttle cable.

Hi ladies and gents.

I have a 1979 series 3 petrol with a SU hif44 fitted and was wondering what the best way to convert the throttle linkage is i.e. changing the metal rod linkage to full cable, currently i have a bodged bit of cable from the linkage to the carb but it does not allow full range of motion and is frankly just temporary.

What is the usual solution for changing the rods to cable?

As long as the linkage is in good condition, there is no point in converting to cable. What is your reasoning for a cable conversion.

The SU i have fitted has a cable operated throttle which is on the opposite side to carbs like the weber so i feel it would be easier to convert to cable operation than modifying the linkages.

You will need the pedal from a 90 or 110 thats the easiest way to go but you'll probably have to modify it to get full travel.

I might be way off here as have no knowledge of petrols, but the diesel throttle set up on a series uses a rod linkage from the pedal and then a short section of cable to the injector pump, could something similar not be used for the final connection to the carb?

No carb is on the other side..

Look for a 2.5 90 petrol set up.
They use a snail cam on the carb.
We used the original rod set up across the bulkhead drilled a hole in one of the arms and used a piece of angle to hold the cable. This was on a Webber.
