Hi

I need help PLEASE.

I've done the shims on my 83 Classic. (Preload on the front diff)

I still get the shudder.

Can it be the steering, as I do have a bit of play.

What else can it be?

Not teaching to suck eggs,

You did preload correctly as the early models and later models with and without ABS differ in the preload amount.

I hope so. The instructions that I got off the net said 16 pounds.
Mine is OLD, so non ABS.

The earliest manual I have is for the '86 pre ABS model and that sets a preload way lower at about 2.6lbs pull without any of the steering arms attached.

Someone says diff pre load. Someone says ball joint bearing pre load which one is it?

preload on swivel bearings is only 1kg or 2-3 lbs on swivels with a bearing top and bottom as rrc is 16 lbs will bugger the bearings and feel odd

Think he has got confused with pounds feet and inch pounds. 16 in lbs would be ok. 16 lb ft ain't.
