Right, I'm 18 and been driving for just over a year. I'm going to need a van soon for work (Mobile caravan service engineer) so will need to be under buisness usage. Only used for carying our own goods like tools, not for delivery etc.

Just rang up my insurance company (Co-Op Insurance) was all going well untill I told them my age. With them, I need to be 21Yrs of age for me to have a commercial policy. Been onto a local insurace company in town, they want 2k for the year.

Any one in the same situation, or know where would be cheaper than 2k.

Oh and the van would be something small like a Vauxhall Combi 1.3 Deisel

Cheers

just insure it for social & domestic with class1 business use not as a works van this covers you for carrying tools etc It's How I insure the disco so no probs if an arsy plod stops me with all me tools in the back.

Redhand is correct about the class 1 insurance etc ,my disco is insured as a commercial vehicle with autonet ins ,stoke on trent . Feel sorry for young ones thesedays as my first ever insurance on a mk3 cortina in 82 was £80.00 its hard to believe now ,makes you wonder the way it keeps going up how long it will be till some company brings out a new up to date version of the old handcart that tradesmen would push around but knowing this goverment they would say it would have to be taxed and insured etc .

You can see why there are so many un-insured drivers on the road too, for some people, it's impossible for them to afford it, yet they need there vehicle to earn money!

direct line did me a pretty good deal on my freelander commercial for business use, but I am considerably older than you.

don't think it's the business use that's causing you the problem, think it's probably your age.

might be worth trying a broker rather than the insurance companies direct.

good luck with it though.
