Evening all, the clutch pedal on my 1.8 freelander has gone completely in that it pushes to the floor and just stays there (previously driving normally) I'm hoping its just the clutch cable or the freelander equivilant. Any ideas please before a trip to the garage. Cheers

If I remember correctly the master and slave cylinder have to be changed as a matched pair.

Have you checked the fluid level and for any leaks?

mine went last year comes with cylinder already filled one complete unit easy to fit took me 1/2 hour and im no expert cost £50, some garages i phoned tried to rip me off and said the clutch had completley gone wanting £300 just look at how the old one clips on before you take it out.

or if you don't fancy it, roberth has just had his clutch master and slave replaced at a main dealers, came in at £280, but that included £90 for a 30 mile recovery from his house to the dealers, and then dropping it back.

so unpleasant, but won't write the car off in terms of cost

Mine went the day I picked it up so the dealer fixed it for nowt. It was the master cylinder in my case and (according to the copy invoice I asked for) it cost them:

Master cylinder £122.59
Clutch fluid £6.00
Labour £45.00

Total £173.59+VAT = £203.99

Cheers

Rog

I have also seen the slave cylinder come out of the mounting bracket either when the clip comes off or the bracket breaks.

Might be worth looking under the bonnet to see if its a cheap replacement. If the clip is missing a couple of cable ties work well. If the bracket has broken they are under £10 from a dealer.

Regards,

Steve

Cheers everyone that doesn't sound too bad. Can someone point me to where these cylinders are located so that I can decide weather to try to change them myself. If I can see them and get at the I don't mind having a go meesell.

Keep on keepin on!!
