Hi,

Getting one clock noise when I pull off in most gears just an inital one clonk when I press the accelorator.Seems to be more apparent when low revs. Not engine related sounds more like somthing loose in the clutch, driveshaft, gearbox, acc pedal?

Did use search but couldnt find a similar problem.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I can get it up on the rams and start checking things out

cheers

check prop ujs ,remove pto cover on transfer box and check splines on mainshaft and input gear ,gear will pull out to see ,check A frame ball joint

1st place to look is UJ's and sliders on props....put it in nuetral, handbrake off and look for play in the drive chain

DROP ARM BALL JOINT UPPER TRAIL LINK ? check this by sliding underneath your car, back axle, look on top for ball joint, take tyre lever or similar and try to move it up a down by placing one end on diff mount and prise it up a down, should have no movement at all.

Had the same prob, turned out to be a combination of worn diffs, cv's, tranny input shaft and axle drive splines, previous owner was a bus company and had been towing busses:doh: replaced both front and rear axle with disco ones and put disco transfer box on and all clunking has now gone:) also check a frame ball joint and as already said ujs and props.

Mine can be rather clunky too, I've just adopted a cautious clutch foot and a gentle approach to gear changes and pulling away :) Works most of the time though if I need to accelerate quick through the gears she'll protest with some clunks.

Don't know the exact cause, haven't looked into it in too much detail though. Seems to come mainly from front half, down below gearbox and a bit forward, sounds like it's from that area when driving anyway. Front prop has a bit more rotational movement then back. Hoping it's just cumulative wear on diffs/cvs/halfshafts/drive members rather then me mainshaft

Hi,

thanks for the replys.
It def sounds like the uj's as it happens when the propshaft takes up the torque.

How many uj's will i need? just the two?
