I’ve got a 6 speed manual 2010 freelander 2 td4xs the 4x4 don’t work and it has a very loud intermittent banging/clunking noise coming from the passenger side when pulling off and turning either direction but happens more when turning left.

Could the 4x4 not working and noises be related I thought it could be the transfer box

I'm guessing the splined link to the PTU has failed. This can make a noise, and will prevent drive to the rear wheels. To cure the issue, often a replacement PTU and spline link is needed, and if the gearbox output spline is damaged, a replacement gearbox might also be needed.
These issues are often caused by mismatched tyres, which overload the driveline components.

For reference, the Freelander 2 is AWD, not 4X4, there is a difference in operation, although the result is much the same.

I’ve had someone say it could be the cv joint and someone else has said it could be the gearbox mount do you think it could be?

CV joints are common causes of noises (clicking) and vibration, especially as you say, when turning. However, they usually start very softly and the levels of noise/vibration increases over time.

Not sure why a failing gearbox mount could cause banging/clunking when accelerating, not sure how turning would be a factor, but possible.

What ever, they are visible and can be checked. So obviously first things to do to rule them out.

The PTU splines failing will can cause banging/clunking, and do it with no prior warning. Its highly likely they have gone but will be more difficult to check. I'm no F2 expert so don't know exactly how you can check - but you need to determine if the prop shaft rotates independently of the engine when in gear - because it should not. There should be a direct drive of the prop shaft from the gearbox output via the PTU. If there isn't then the splines have gone.

A CV can make a noise, normal it's a ticking sound on full lock. However this wouldn't effect the rear drive. Loss of rear drive and a banging noise does point towards an issue with the PTU.
It's unlikely to be a mount, as those make a soft clunk only when power is applied.
