hi ya
I wanted some advice im cleaning the parts for my series 3. Thing like to starter motor, heater, raditator, ect...
Has anyone got any good idea on how to clean them also on what is the best way to protect them once clean.
I started cleanin my starter motor got most of the grease and grim off.

Cheers
Any help will do.

paraffin or petrol-but just go careful you dry them properly.
Or brake cleaner

paint them with high temp engine enamel paint

will they also get rust off as well.
cheers for the info.

wire brush, all the guy I used to know that refurbed starters did was petrol/paraffin and clean the parts, let it dry and re assemble.

I used some diesel contaminated with petrol recently and as long as it had dried completely then the high temp engine enamel paint seemed to stick okay.

use a paint brush and you will not saturate it and can work it into the dirt

Just be very careful cleaning things with a solvent cause many components have oiled and greased bushes and bearings etc inside that could be dissolved and it'll be ruined unless you is gonna dismantle it and re-grease etc.

Diesel works well on most things.
Get one of those 25 litre plastic drums and chop one side off with a jigsaw or whatever and stick a couple of inches in the bottom, you can get stiff turks head brushes from an engineers merchants.
