Ok this is a silly one. I input the wrong code. Then I held the band button for 3 secs and the unit reset, so I input the wrong code again. And again. Manual says after 3 tries system will lock out for an hour. Is that an hour with ignition on or just an hour? Because its been several hours - days in fact and the thing is just blocked, displaying the last code i wrongly entered and the band button doesn't respond anymore. Anyway, next i removed fuse 1 and 8 from under the seat. put them in again and this time the last number i entered has dissappeared to be replaced by a row of dashes. still won't respond to band button, still wont allow input of code.

heeelp!

Normally if the unit locks out after 3 attempts it should be switched off. As there is a permanent live feed to the unit, that keeps the coding active.
Just try leaving it switched off, lock the car, go for a couple of pints , a meal or even wait until tomorrow morning and try again. If you still have problems, you may need to send it to Clarion with your code as proof of ownership.

Cheers Irish. Don't quite follow though - its been switched off overnight already but are you saying the permanent live feed is what's keeping the lockout in place or that its supposed to clear it after an hour? Anyway, have taken neg off the batt for the night. Will see in the morn. Sending it to Clarion is not an option where I am. I might just end up listenin to me ipod for a while.

Just diconnect the fuse for the radio live feed to the right of the drivers seat for a period of time. This time depends on how good the internal capacitor is. When the capacitor discharges the radio will forget about wrong code and load up ready for correct one.

Flummoxed. Did the fuse out thing. No joy. Disconnected the battery overnight. No joy (buts lots of fun resyching the remote and resetting windows etc). Left radio on and drove around for a couple of hours without switching off. No joy. All I get are the damned dashes and no response to any buttons.

So is there no way to get it to where it will allow the code to be input again? Sadly sending it to Clarion or anyone else is logistically more of a nightmare than its worth so my options are: (a) figure out a fix (b) listen to my ipod - which the better 'alf sez I can't have as she's put a load of nursery rhymes and lullabies on for the baby and (c) stick in an aftermarket unit, bypass the door amps, lose the sub and lose steering controls. :(

If it's the Diversity, you can get a full overhaul for about £75 incl. return postage to the U.K. I am sure that the extra cost of sending it from Germany will be minimal, as will be the cost from the UK back.
They do a fantastic job on them, replace the LCD if required plus a 100% service & check. Same day turnaround as well.
Personally, if you are happy with the unit, it will be cheaper to go along that route than prat about trying to modify a new system to suit the system and controls that you have. Therehave been several posts about replacement units not working from the steering wheel controls and the amplifier system......at the end of the day, it's your call.

I'll second Irish's comments. I've had this service myself a couple of years ago and can highly recommend it. The aftermarket route can be gone down but it seems to be a whole world of pain. Getting yours fixed is the cheapest and easiest. They can also install an audio input jack plug so's you can play your iPod / MP3 etc.

i wonder if you're both recommending the same service? if could you give me a name or website i'll get in touch.

thanks for the advice guys!
